Cedar Waxcap (Hygrocybe russocoriacea)

Longworth Estate, Derbyshire, October 12, 2014

Very similar in appearance to H. virginea (Snowy Waxcap) which is also white with similarly strongly decurrent gills. This species is rather more ivory in colour and usually has a pale yellow-fawn area near the centre of the cap. It also smells strongly of cedar wood (pencil shavings) or - as the scientific name suggests - Russian leather.
